What the official operation reported
INTERPOL’s account of Operation Mobile 3 states that authorities carried out 44,000 vehicle checks across participating European and Balkan jurisdictions in October 2020. The operation detected 352 stolen vehicles, 1,077 stolen vehicle parts and forged or falsified identity and vehicle documents.
The checks occurred at borders and inland locations, with real-time cross-checking against international databases and support from INTERPOL, Frontex and Europol.
Why document-only review is incomplete
A document may carry a correct VIN while parts or physical identifiers belong to another vehicle. Conversely, a legitimate vehicle can be paired with altered sale or identity paperwork. Inspect the physical car and major component identity where appropriate, then compare the findings with the documentary chain.
