What the official operation reported
INTERPOL reported that the 2025 Safe Wheels operation involved 12 West African countries, inspections of more than 12,000 vehicles, detection of approximately 150 stolen vehicles and seizure of more than 75. Most detected stolen vehicles were reported as trafficked from Canada, with others reported stolen in France, Germany and the Netherlands.
The operation used INTERPOL’s Stolen Motor Vehicle database and initiated new investigations. Its results concern law-enforcement checks; they should not be repackaged as proof that a consumer website has equivalent access.
What the route teaches buyers
Origin, transit and destination systems may each hold different information. A clean local registration or inspection does not describe every prior jurisdiction. Review timing matters because national data can be shared or corrected after the vehicle has moved.
- Map every known registration, auction, transit and import country
- Ask each provider to disclose its jurisdiction and update timing
- Repeat material searches close to transfer
- Treat unexplained Canadian ownership or export gaps as unresolved
- Use authorities when a theft or identity concern is credible
